first post grant appointment

what needs to be discussed at the first post grant appointment

Once the young person starts receiving payments from us, you'll need to discuss how you'll support them during their time with Youth Service.

post grant appointment checklist

As a youth coach, you'll be responsible for supporting the young people you work with while they are enrolled in your service.

At the first post grant meeting you need to talk about how things are going and help them meet their activity obligations by:

  • referring them to a parenting programme (if they receive YPP or young parent partner payment)
  • referring them to a budgeting programme, and
  • finding the right education, training or work based learning programme for them.

You also need to make sure the young person is on money management within 20 working days from the date of grant.

You must tell the young person that:

  • they need to attend regular meetings with you as part of meeting their obligations
  • they must to tell you of any changes in their personal circumstances or their family’s situation, including contact information, straight away.
  • together, you will complete a Youth Service plan that sets out their goals and aspirations. Let them know that in this plan you'll work together to:
    • identify any underlying issues or barriers that may affect their participation in your service, including their ability to meet their youth activity obligations, (for example, a mental health issue)
    • make a plan for meeting their youth activity obligations, (like being in education and attending a budgeting programme)
    • develop a plan for what they want to do when they exit Youth Service.
  • their youth activity obligations are mandatory and if they fail to comply without a good and sufficient reason or an exemption, their payments will be affected.
  • you will request that they share information from their MyMSD  with you as part of their budgeting discussions.

Payment card PIN

If the young person hasn't already, you should support them to set a PIN on their payment card. For information about setting a PIN see payment cards | Youth Service providers.
