these payments are available to help taiohi to pay for their education

Course Participation Assistance and Training Incentive Allowance are available to help young people pay for the education they need to get where they need to be.

course participation assistance

Course Participation Assistance is available to help taiohi take part in training and work related skills development by providing financial assistance to help with the extra costs incurred through participation in the course or programme.

Who can get it

To get Course Participation Assistance, taiohi need to:

  • be on a benefit or stand-down for a benefit
  • be attending a short-term employment related course or programme that's 12 weeks or less

It is affected by how much taiohi earn and any cash or assets they have.

The course must be either:

  • supplied by a provider who has a contract with Work and Income
  • approved by Work and Income
  • matched to a specific vacancy
  • specifically recognised alongside a Skills for Industry initiative, or
  • an Intensive Literacy and Numeracy programme or Targeted ESOL programme contracted by the Tertiary Education Commission.

How much can they get

We can pay up to a maximum of $1,000 for:

  • course tuition and enrolment fees
