approving and declining yp and ypp

the youth service support unit is responsible for making the final decision to grant or decline all applications

YSSU is responsible for making the final decision to grant or decline all YP and YPP applications.

application is granted

Youth Service providers will receive a notification via ART from YSSU with:

  • confirmation that the application has been granted (YP or YPP)
  • confirmation that the payment card has been activated
  • A copy of the first four pages of the Family Breakdown Assessment (FBA) report (where applicable)
  • notification of whether or not Family Reconciliation Counseling (FRC) is approved by YSSU (where applicable).

The youth coach will need to contact the young person to book a post-grant appointment, which must be held within two working days.

At this appointment, if you haven’t already, the Youth coach will discuss:

  • the young person’s youth activity obligations
  • their Youth Service Plan
  • the frequency of ongoing appointments with their youth coach
  • their ‘Needs’ and agreed ‘Activities’ in ART
  • what support is available for the young person to attend FRC (if applicable).

twenty working days to get on money management

When the young person has been granted a Youth Service payment or is accepted into the Youth Service (young partners or young parent partners), they will have 20 working days to provide the relevant documentation to get set up with Money Management. If they fail to supply the necessary documents within the specified timeframe, without a good reason, they may receive an obligation failure.

notifying taiohi when YP or YPP is granted

Young people will be advised by text message that they have been granted YP or YPP. The text message will refer them to the Work and Income website where they can view MyMSD to check for payment information.

If the young person does not have a mobile phone or they have not agreed to receive text message correspondence, YSSU will send the young person a letter.

application is declined

If an application has been declined, YSSU will notify the youth coach through ART and provide details regarding the reasons for the declined application.

If the Youth Service provider is contracted to deliver the NEET service, the youth coach can contact the young person to offer this service if they meet the eligibility criteria.

If the Youth Service provider is not contracted to deliver the NEET service, YSSU may refer the young person to a NEET service provider.

Notifying taiohi when their Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment application is declined

The young person will receive a letter acknowledging that their application has been declined.

The letter will direct the young person to the Work and Income website for more information about other available services, including the NEET service.

The letter will also inform the young person about the process for reviewing the outcome of their application if they disagree.
