language line
yssu staff can access language line to help youth service providers communicate with taiohi
Language Line is a telephone interpreting service for clients for whom English is their second language. YSSU can use Language Line to help Youth Service providers communicate with Youth Service taiohi.
Language Line uses qualified interpreters to interpret a young person's language into English. The call involves four people, the Interpreter, the YSSU staff member, the provider, and the young person.
Language Line is available for Work and Income staff (including YSSU) between 9.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday.
what you need to do
If you need help with communicating with a young person who has English as a second language, you will need to:
- create a task in ART
- include the young person’s preferred language
- suggest dates and times where a call to Language Line to provide a translation service could occur.
YSSU will then set up a time for the call to take place.
