emergency and essential needs
hardship assistance for taiohi who are isolating
current list of essential services
Requests for essential services that we’ll be able to consider during this time include:
- Food (see section below)
- Bonds to secure tenancy
- Car repairs (if urgently needed)
- Emergency dental
- Emergency housing
- Emergency medical treatment
- Face masks (see below)
- Health travel costs
- Power disconnections
- Urgent home repairs
- Water tank refill
- Whiteware
- Urgently required essential consumer products, including only:
- Appliances (heaters, vacuum cleaners, etc)
- Beds
- Bedding
- Clothing
- Footwear
- Mobile phones
If the young person has an essential need, but doesn’t have a payment card or can’t use their payment card in person to access their need (e.g. they are isolating or in lockdown and the need can only be accessed through online orders), we can make a payment through direct credit to their bank account as a last resort.
This option is only available if a young person is isolating or in lockdown and should only be used in exceptional circumstances at your discretion based on the young person's circumstances.
Direct credits to a young person's bank account require additional notes in ART as to why they can't use a payment card.
For any other requests that are not an emergency or essential need, please ask the young person to make contact with us after they've come out of isolation or lockdown.
face masks
You can find information about face masks on the Ministry of Health website here
online digital support tools
We understand that young people are needing more support during Covid-19. Below are links to free online tools that can help taiohi if they want to chat to counsellor or look through a few helpful resources.
vaccine booking
A real-time interactive ‘VAX booking availability map’ has been developed. Use this app to find locations that have availability to book in your COVID-19 vaccine. The map will provide a view of capacity for booking two doses 6 weeks apart at the same location. Find out where you can get vaccinated here.
Please note: This booking availability map represents only the ‘public’ capacity and not any reserved sites (sites that require an access code).
You can also visit www.healthpoint.co.nz and www.karawhiua.nz to see the vaccination sites offering COVID-19 vaccinations, but using their own booking systems (such as some GPs, hauora clinics, pharmacies and urgent care centres).
