Youth Service foundations for youth coaches
The eLearning modules below cover the everyday ART activities that youth coaches do every day.
New youth coaches might want to go through each module one at a time and follow along using ART to get familiar with how it works.
More experienced in youth coaches might want a quick refresh on a topic, or a team leader might go through a module each team meeting so everyone knows how to get the most out of ART.
This module is designed for youth coaches who are new to Youth Service Ratonga Taiohi.
Consider this module as your Youth Service 101 class. You'll learn about how we fit into MSD, our purpose and background, our waiata, ART, some of our acronyms and phrases, where to find information and more!

This course is designed to give you an overview of the application process for taiohi applying for Youth Payment (YP) and Young Parent Payment (YPP).
It contains lessons outlining the different stages of the application for Youth Payment or Young Parent Payment.

You as a youth coach will use ART (Activity Reporting Tool) to record information about taiohi. Its important to record information accurately and in a timely manner. You will also use it to make recommendations about financial assistance to YSSU.
In this module, you will learn good record keeping in ART and tips to stay on top of your record-keeping, monitoring your caseload and planning future activities.

In this module you will learn about how to create a youth service plan, supporting a young person to check on their entitlement and about payment cards.
Having needs, activities, and notes recorded in ART (Activity Reporting Tool) correctly ensures that YSSU gets correct and timely information to make a quick decision, and we can report on aspects of our service accurately to make recommendations.
In this module, you will learn all about the obligations that young people in Youth Service have when they receive financial assistance.
You’ll be able to explain the incentive payments they can earn if they meet their obligations and the consequences to young people when they don’t meet their obligations. You’ll also know how to use ART to recommend an incentive payment or sanction and recommend the removal of a sanction when a young person has recomplied.

In this module, you will learn to explain what a milestone is, record milestone information in ART, and understand how they connect to your Youth Service contract.
In this module, you will learn what money management is, how it affects a young person’s payments, and how to support a young person to come off money management through good budgeting discussions.
You’ll also be able to recognise when it might be appropriate to recommend a young person to return money management.
In this module you’ll learn about where to go for information about what extra financial support young people in Youth Service might be able to get, common assistance that young people may be eligible for and how to support young people to access extra financial assistance.
This module covers Accommodation Supplement, Temporary Additional Support, Winter Energy Payment, Disability Allowance, Child Disability Allowance, Training Incentive Allowance and Course Participation Assistance and Programme Fund.
In this module you will learn what you need to do when something changes for a young person. Learn how the correct way to register a change in ART, know what young people can do for themselves in MyMSD and how to check that a young person is receiving all the payments they are entitled to.

Hardship assistance is a one-off payment to help a young person pay an essential or emergency cost that they can't pay for in another way.
In this module you will learn about supporting young people to apply for hardship grants through MSD. By the end of the module you will understand the different types of hardship grants, how to apply for them and what is required by YSSU to approve these.

For some young people, leaving Youth Service isn’t easy for them. You can help our young people prepare for the changes ahead by taking action early and supporting them towards their next destination.
A young person can exit the Youth Service for a number of reasons. Depending on the reason for leaving the young person's record will either be automatically exited from the Youth Service system, or manually exited.
